The 66th Edition of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance has seen well over 200 cars coming from 16 different countries, which elegantly crowded the space between holes 17 and 18 of Pebble Beach’s Gold Links and participated in the “Tour d’Elegance” to Carmel-on-the-sea. The traditional annual charity was an immense success and succeeded in raising 1,75 million dollars for 80 local no profit ogranizations.
Pebble Beach 2016 will be remembered for the first overall victory of a pre-war Lancia, a rare 1936 Astura Cabriolet by Pininfarina, one of six specially built automobiles for a Marque’s exclusive concessionary of Biella. It is a remarkable fact because this will certainly raise the interest in the historic past of this glorious car Italian Manufacturer. The Best of Show prize left the owner, Arizona-based Richard Mattei, completely stoked: this was his first time as an entrant at Pebble Beach
Another great success that bears the green, white and red colors of the Italian flag, was the remarkable achievement of the 1957 Alfa Romeo Giulietta SS of Italian Collector Corrado Lopresto, which won the prize as the “Most Elegant Closed Car” award, one of the four “Elegance Awards” issued during the Concour. This victory also celebrates the 100th anniversary of the birth of Franco Scaglione, the legendary designer of the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale and of the Giulietta Sprint. A success of Italian Style and pride in the world.
Also 2016 marked the anniversary of the 50 years of the legendary overall victory of the Ford GT40 at Le Mans: a total of 17 cars, including the famous #2, chassis 1096 of Chris Amon and Bruce McLaren, gathered to have an official picure taken. The 100th anniversary since the founding of BMW was celebrated alongside the cars of Bizzarrini, the Lamborghini Miura and Indy two-seater cars built between 1930 and 1937.
Like every year, Pebble Beach is at the pinnacle of car-culture and taste celebration with a show that gives the West Coast a unique vibe and gathers many enthusiasts from every corner of the world.
